The story would go though ups and downs as far as interesting to me. Overall I think the idea of the Wood was pretty interesting to me, but there was a lot of parts where I found myself skimming because it just wasn't an interesting part. I think if the writing style was a bit different and some parts were cut out, I would have been more into it.

Decision was settling over him like snowfall, the first thin dusting that would build and build.

All those stories must have ended this same way, with someone tired going home from a field full of death, but no one ever sang this part.
