The color of magic by Terry Pratchett

5.0

This is my first time diving into Discworld, and I can't believe I waited all this time to. This has landed in my favorites list as well as my first 5 star of 2024, and I can't wait to read more of this series! This is my kind of fantasy. Quirky, tongue-in-cheek, foreboding with a very healthy dash of sarcasm and humor. Or perhaps it's the other way around? Either way, this fun book was a wild ride and I enjoyed laughing at poor Rincewind's unfortunate life.

Rincewind, Twoflower, and Luggage are the main characters we follow in this story, but there were so many unique side characters in this that I fell in love with for the brief encounter we had with them. Even the nefarious ones. Luggage is my favorite though, next to a certain character befitting my name (Grim). If you know, you know.

I will admit the beginning was a bit clunky, trying to understand Pratchett's writing style and get through the worldbuilding bits of this crazy Discworld, but I'm not faulting it enough to drop a star rating. Once I got the hang of his style and understood the world, I flew through the story and got sucked right in!
