Deceptive Vows by Khardine Gray, Faith Summers

3.0

I read a lot of mafia romance books so this wasn’t anything really unique to me. It was just okay. There was more smut than plot in the beginning, but then the plot picks up after about 75%. This is the traditional FMC taken for an arranged marriage for revenge mafia story, and there is a case of hidden/mistaken identity included.

Mikhail is your mafia antihero out to avenge his mother and sister’s deaths. Natalia is mistaken for the mafia princess of the family he is intent on seeking vengeance on. He takes her as his captive and wants to force her into marriage.

I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the narrators. The author’s writing and prose was good and I enjoyed the pacing of this book. Unfortunately, I wasn’t overly invested in the characters and I didn’t really buy the love between our two characters. There is a lot of telling and not showing of their relationship growth.

Things got a bit repetitive in the middle of the book, but I enjoyed how the book played out and the heart pounding ending that featured many twists and betrayals.
