Wish by Sara Flanagan
5.0

Wish is a story that will stick with you for a long time. It is a story full of emotions, filled with pain, rage, and hate, but also with love and devotion. Wish is a true dark fantasy, as dark as they come. But don't let that notion deter you; it is a story deserving your time and feelings.

Wish is Book 1 in the Ony Mist series by Sara Flanagan, releasing on October 22nd. Honestly, I am honoured by being allowed to be one of Sara's ARC readers, and Wish deserves all the hype it can get.

Now, you may see mentions of a genie in a bottle; it may remind you of Aladdin's story. It is anything but. Wish is a story that goes much deeper and delves into the deepest, most devious parts of us. It is a story of truly morally grey (black) characters. It is a story that will break your heart so many times. But it is a story of hope showing itself in the direst of situations. A story of love emerging where only hate and pain rule. A story of the deepest devotion never disappearing in front of cruelty and evil. A story of two people finding each other when they thought all was lost. A story to keep close.

The plot was so masterfully executed; it was full of unexpected twists and turns, each one more surprising than the last, making you not want to let go. Sara has created such a rollercoaster of emotions, and I know you will love it as much as I did. Just keep your tissues near. Sara will gift you themes and tropes such as curses and binding magic, betrayals, loss, feminine rage, trauma rep, hurt/comfort, and so much more.

Wish is so much more than a story of a girl trapped by binding magic by a cruel master; it is a story of beautifully executed characters, plot, and setting, one that will make you forget you are reading and transport you somewhere else. Trust me, you absolutely need to read and experience Wish. And you need to experience the cliffhanger Sara leaves us with; I need the company to keep me going until we have Book 2 in our arms.
