Bad Mommy by Tarryn Fisher

5.0

“I see you getting things you don’t deserve, living it up. It fucking sucks. I feel resentful because I deserve it more than you do. I could be a better you.”

5 stars. I have yet to be disappointed by this woman's writing and storytelling. She seriously knocks it out of the ballpark every single time. Even though I absolutely loved this, I don't know how to process what I just read. The ending was a bit trippy and definitely made me "wtf?" but it made sense in it's own messed up way. I think.

One thing I do know for sure is that this is my second favorite book by Tarryn Fisher after Mud Vein. That's how much I loved this one.

Tarryn Fisher has a knack for messed up characters and I think the ones in this book were the absolute worst. In a good way of course. I could go on and on all damn day about how much I love her writing but I honestly say it every time I review a book by her but just know that I really do. She did a great job with the pacing and the plot was intriguing and full of twists and turns and the characters felt entirely too real at times. I also liked that it's split into three parts and three p.o.v's. It made the story feel more complete in the end to me.

Sidenote, she also managed to sneak in a Harry Potter reference amongst all of the madness. If that's not talent I don't know what the hell is!

I really don't want to get too much into characters because I don't want to spoil anything at all but just know that when it was all said and done, I didn't hate Fig. I'm not sure what that says about me as a person but I'm just being honest. I wasn't rooting for her or anything but I didn't hate her. I guess pity is the right word for it.

While I did like Jolene she was a bit of an naive airhead at times. I understood where she was coming from absolutely but damn, how many warning signs do you need, girl?? I think she came together as a character for me at the end but I was definitely rooting for her because everything was just so messed up.

Overall, if you like really messed up characters then this book is for you. It's a wild ride from beginning to end.
