The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien
5.0
Rating: 5 stars
I know The Silmarillion was first published in 1977, but J.R.R. Tolkien began writing it as early as 1917 so imma put it in classics.
It only took my two tries to get through The Silmarillion, and it was so worth it! The way I finally managed to read it was by listening to the audiobook (narrated by Martin Shaw who was amazing with pronunciation) and reading the physical copy at the same time. The reason I think The Silmarillion is particularly difficult to get through and not Tolkien's other works was because of the sentence structure being almost back to front to what we are used to. For instance, there is a sentence that is written like this in The Silmarillion: "By the people of Doriath this wood was called Nivrim" instead of how we would say it today: "This wood was called Nivrim by the people of Doriath" so yeah.
Anyway, I can't critique The Silmarillion, just like I can't critique the Bible, for essentially that is what The Silmarillion is for Middle-earth.
