Hamlet by William Shakespeare

5.0

I've enjoyed my time working through each of Shakespeare's plays - I've come across a number I've very much enjoyed I may not have expected. Here though, after all the meat of the histories and vegetables of the comedies, comes dessert - There really wasn't ever much of a question that I was going to love this. As one of the couple I'm familiar with and have studied before, I already came in with a better connection to it, but this goes beyond just 'familiarity' - Hamlet is just really goddamn good guys.

Impressive storytelling, classic characters, gorgeous sweeping soliloquies - there's not much to say here. Just, even within the already impressive canon of Shakespeare the story is particularly cogent, timeless, and strange - entertaining as heck yeah, but also daring you to get philosophical with aspects of politics, self, and particularly (pretty comprehensively throughout) death, the manner of, the afterlife, and all sorts of beautiful morbid thoughts.

It's maybe perfect, classic for a reason, read it.
