Okay listen, I don’t throw around the phrase “has me in a chokehold” very often, but this series… OH MY GOD. This book was such a good follow-up to the first one. Deonn handles the “fantasy sequel” responsibility of expanding the world and the characters’ experiences *very* well. Bree’s experiences and interactions with the Regents bring up a lot of difficult issues and I think Bree’s character and motivations are really cemented as a result. However, this also does a good job of reminding us that she’s only 16… this is a lot of responsibility for her to take on.
As in the first book, I adored the side characters (William. Alice. My loves) and loved that they got to play bigger roles. I’m glad we explored Bree’s Root roots (lol) more in this book as well, with some really fascinating new information unlocked! I have no idea how people waited years for book 3 because I don’t even want to wait the few days until it comes out.
