The story follows a young Scottish man living in a harsh fishing village who, after starting a relationship in the worst possible way, manages to do the right thing and be the best man he can be. Although the story is about a Selkie, that's not really what it's about at all. It's about accepting differences and working past a harsh, difficult beginning to make the best of something, or at least that's what I got out of it.
If you're wanting a fantasy book then I think you'll be disappointed but if you're open to anything then absolutely give this a read
