Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin

I started reading this book b/c of the movie that was coming out and the fact that is was based in 'New York City' (I am a sucker for books based in NYC). The book was strange because a quarter of it took place in New York City during the early 1900's. The majority of the rest of the book took place in New York City right before the turn of the millennium. I felt like the portrayal of NYC in the late 1990's was not quite realistic and was often confused of why it seemed more like the 1950's instead.

The descriptions in the book were well done but the plot was all over the place. I was extremely confused and felt like the whole idea of people staying suspended on time was done strangely. Very rarely does it feel like a chore to read a book but this was a book where I felt like I wasn't enjoying the book but just reading the words to get to the end of the book.
