The Three Lives of Alix St Pierre by Natasha Lester

5.0

Another wonderful historic fiction from Natasha Lester. The story of Alix St Pierre takes the reader through horrors of war and the determination of partisans in Italy to overcome those horrors, the glamour of House of Dior, the sadness of a girl left without parents at the age of 13 and her dependence on kindness of her best friend’s parents. Struggling to overcome her penniless background , determined to make a life for herself this novel gives insight into one person’s will to succeed, to be recognised for her own abilities. It tells of the way women were regarded as mindless beings, of being ‘ornaments’ for men - a life she was not prepared to endure.

I recommend reading the authors note before actually reading this book to fully comprehend how life was in the periods this book was set.
