A Lust for Blood
by K.C. Smith
this was very interesting - in theory.
a Jekyll and Hyde retelling but with lots of demons, gods, monsters, curses and magic. I lvoed the world building and the lore and mythology in it was really cool to read about. I also really liked Orrick, even tho he had very little page time. I saw another reviewer say that he gave Loki vibes and I one hundred percent agree (which is also probably why I liked him!).
I sort of felt like the story didn't start until almost 60% in though. before that it kind of dragged on and I was a little bored. the pacing was inconsistent and that sort of annoyed me. some scenes seemed to be super slow and others flew by. and I thought the ending wrapped up rather quickly and when I reached the last page I just kind of had to sit there for a second, like that was it?
there was so much build up and then what should have been the big finale was like just a few pages and felt kinda flat.
I also thought the characters were... sorta boring? I mean there was some character development, but I don't think it was woven into the story well enough for me to enjoy. it felt more like an info dump than a development if that makes sense.
overall tho, I didn't think this was bad. there were just a few things I found annoying in the writing that prevented me from enjoying it completely.
