Extremely mixed feelings about this book. I was completely captivated and the writing is impeccable with many complex, thought provoking themes woven throughout. I was ready to give it five stars until the end which I absolutely hated because of the
awful guns pointed at each other Quentin Tarantino style standoff.
It’s the absolute most violent, distributing, personally triggering, and lazy way to dole out a climactic moment. ugh. The worst. It completely spoiled the book. Who’s the enemy here? Was completely lost in the sauce. Everyone looks bad. So many of the characters we’re morally questionable, we could have wrapped things up in a more deliberate way and it would have been believable.
I mean, the book states right up front that time travel is full of ambiguity, it’s reinforced by the unnamed narrator who really doesn’t seem to have much individuality, but seriously! There was also so much humor and sweetness! It wish it wasn’t such a depressing let down.
