This book threw so many genres and tropes together that I was frustrated in Book One.... but then the characterization and plot and relationships were so good that I ended up mad about how much I liked it and how I'm actively looking forward to The Bond that Burns? Honestly this book shines in the way that it takes the dynamic between Medra and Blake and never disrespects it by glossing over their unique perspectives or watering them down. There are real consequences for decisions and actions, regardless of desires, and I respect the heck out of this book for that.
