Scythe by Neal Shusterman
5.0
I am so glad I found this book thanks to the facebook bookclub Monthly Bookclub! Scythe was one of their picks for the month of November and I decided to give it a try because I've enjoyed other dystopian books like The Hunger Games and Divergent in the past and I thought that this story might get me out of the 3 month slump I've been in (with not liking ACOTAR and Cruel Prince) and boy was I excited to be right!
This is my first book by Neal Shusterman and it did not disappoint! The concept of living in a world with no hunger, no disease, no war, and no misery really intrigued me and I was hooked from the first chapter! The world that Shusterman created might seem boring to some but to me it was interesting how he brought this world about. They lived with little purpose living years upon years until their world was upended by a Scythe which can easily be known as a master of death or the only person who can take a life.
Without giving too much away, this is the story of 2 apprentice Scythe's and their training to become Scythe's. There are MANY twists and turns throughout this story that keeps the reader on their toes. You meet many different types of Scythes along the way and learn that there are many ways to glean or kill people. We also learn that not all Scythe's are good! Throughout the book was also learn that things are not considered fair for our 2 apprentices because it is decided (by other scythe's) that only one of them can be a Scythe and the other must be gleaned or killed by his or her fellow apprentice.
Like I said this is a story with many twists and turns and it had my attention from the first chapter until the very end! I can't wait to see what happens in the sequel!
