War by Laura Thalassa

4.0

After reading Pestilence, I was a bit hesitant to carry on with the series, but decided to at least give a go. Knowing the premise this time and how it would likely pan out I was able to adjust my expectations. I enjoyed it a lot and read it pretty quickly. For War's book, it's set in present day Israel. War is laying waste to the lands, collecting prisoners of war to serve in his army for the ultimate goal of eliminating the human race.

I liked both Miriam and War. Miriam is a survivor of a lot of trauma. Even before the horsemen arrive, she has a tenuous life with her mixed heritage and cultural background. She loses everything once the horsemen arrive but she doesn't surrender.

Book 2 starts off much like Pestilence. We meet our FMC, battling day to day life post-horsemen arrival. Miriam spots War as he and his army make their way across the land to destroy and kill, like eradicating an infestation. While there are some similarities to Pestilence and Sara's story, it's certainly a new take.

No spoilers in this review for once. Just read it. I'm very much looking forward to Famine and Death.
