Pee Wees: Confessions of a Hockey Parent by Rich Cohen

emotional funny informative medium-paced

2.75

I read this book because I'm a hockey fan and I wanted to know more about the less-visible aspects of the sport. It gave lots of interesting details about youth hockey and Rich Cohen is a humorous writer with enough self-reflection to make it a worthwhile read if you want to know more about the subject. It was a very light book. My rating isn't higher because it didn't excel in any area, though it was decent in several. I was annoyed when Cohen casually dropped in mentions of the violence of hockey culture without really exploring them (including the use of slurs, bullying coaches, and the death of a child). There was a lot of shrugging and a decent amount of nostalgia. I'm not sure I really came away with a strong message.
