A Good Year by Peter Mayle

4.0

Peter Mayle's books are escapist fun and this one is no exception. They do always focus on a man finding himself, with female characters on the periphery and objectified rather strongly. But it's on the same level as a Hitchcock film in the use of male gaze.

Also, because they jolted me out of the story, it's worth noting there are two references to skin tone that are unnecessary. It feels like he goes out of his way to make the reader know a character is not white.

This is his only book made into a movie, which I'd like to see.
