"Who are you calling old? I’m just starting my second act."

In Detective Aunty we follow Kausar Khan as she tries to help her daughter out of a murder charge, while balancing family drama, and a friend who wants more.

Cozy any-genre is not my usual, but if it's set in Toronto I will probably pick it up. This story primarily took place in a neighbourhood in Scarborough (Toronto's east end), and I loved and appreciated all the references. Scarborough is known to be vibrantly multicultural and Jalaluddin wove that into this story in a wonderful way.

I also very much loved and appreciated how Kausar regularly had to wonder if she looked older than she was, and getting miffed at people too close to her age calling her aunty. This story was as much about solving the whodunnit as it was about Kausar proving to herself and those around her that she isn't just a widowed housewife and that there is plenty of life in her yet! I'm ready to follow Kausar on her next adventure!

I read this via audio and enjoyed Deepti Gupta's narration. she did a fantastic job bringing all of the characters to life.
