The Gift of Rain by Tan Twan Eng
4.0

I liked this book very much, though I don’t know if I would have enjoyed it this much if I weren’t somewhat familiar with the region, its history, and its culture. Reading this historical novel has made me more determined to read The Narrow Road to the Deep North in 2018 as there is a mention of the railroad in Burma in The Gift of Rain. A friend has also suggested an autobiography and a Japanese novel to give me better perspective into the different parties involved in the invasion of Malaysia during WWII.
