mcastledine 's review for:
Heavenly Bodies
by Imani Erriu
This book started off as a light easy read. But nothing was developed - the characters have no personality, or consistent behaviours or values. The FMC at one point spares the life of someone responsible for the death of her family. Later on, the same FMC cheers on the death of the MMCs antagonist. ???
The characters just keep on making dumb decisions without explanation - obvious trap? Yep let’s walk into that with no plan. Got our enemy captive? Yep will just let them go. Got to train for killing the enemy? Nah gonna eat pastries instead then cry about it later.
The magic system isn’t explained or what the characters are actually doing off screen to train to fight the enemy. They then discover org@sm magic which was so dumb it made me actually LOL and despite it being really important for the plot they never do it again.
There are scraps of potential in here somewhere which kept me going but it felt like the author had 1000 ideas and cliches she wanted to cram in here and rush between them without developing the plot.
