The Original Folk and Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm by Jacob Grimm, Wilhelm Grimm

5.0

I came for the gore and the dark take on the world and stayed for the blunt storytelling, honest endings, and wide range of tales I wish were in our classic storybooks.

Before you jump into the stories, READ THE INTRODUCTIONS. They provide crucial context and, for me, a deeper appreciation for the collection as a whole.

All the way through, it was a joy to read. The stories are brisk, surprising and often startled a laugh out of me. Even the unfinished ones are a fun read, and I really appreciate how Jack Zipes was able to maintain the limericks and rhymes from the German version.

You won't be disappointed with these. At all. Seriously, go pick up a copy now.
