This book follows McLean who is living with her Dad after her parents divorce. Due to her dad’s job, she’s constantly moving around and never settled in one place. Because of this, she’s constantly creating new identities each place she goes as a way not to get too attached, however things are different this time in a new town as this time she doesn’t want to leave but what will happen when she inevitably has to?
The beginning of this book had me second guessing if I was going to like this one but given the books direction, I’m willing to overlook it. The whole beginning part about how she had a new identity everywhere she went was quite cringy. I couldn’t get past it so I’m glad that did not continue for the rest of the book.
In comparison to some of Sarah Dessen’s other stories, this one is definitely on the lighter side which is something I definitely appreciated!
I liked that the friends in this book had more distinct personalities. I didn’t feel like I was getting confused on which one is which as I was in Along for the Ride. The Romance was pretty good too. Dave was a little dull and not as interesting as some of Sarah Dessen’s other love interests but he was still likeable. I’m going to be honest that I cared about the dad’s relationship with another character probably more than I did than McLean and Dave so do with that what you will.
My only complaint is the way the ending was written. I wished that the reveal wasn’t in the epilogue but actually something we saw happen.
Overall a pretty good run of the mill Sarah Dessen. If you like her books, you’ll probably like this one too!
