This book follows a loveable but ruthless assassin plagued with a degenerative disease. In an effort to find a cure, he coerced the most skilled healer, Aurienne to help. This book was truly an enemy to lovers and slow burn novel. It felt like she did a great job with those elements and there was a lot of good banter. I adore Osric’s character who was delightfully ruthless whilst being funny and irreverent. Aurienne was a fine character but her narratives were less “fun” than Osric. I’ve not read a lot of fan fiction so it was interesting to see what it was about. It was neat because it captured the essence of Draco/Hermione and certain elements of the HP magical system while standing on its own merits. The larger plot was somewhat intriguing and it leaves you hanging at the end.
I’m a big fan of secondary characters and this book had very little secondary character involvement. The ones that were included were in service to the plot and didn’t have any major character development.
Overall I’d say it was a solid and enjoyable lead if you’re looking for a book in this genre.
