My Zombie Sweetheart by Christopher Robertson

adventurous dark emotional funny hopeful lighthearted mysterious sad tense medium-paced

5.0

This was literally everything I want in a romantic zombie story. I expected this to be good, but I have to say it exceeded my expectations. As usual, I really enjoy the movie-esque feel to Christopher's novels, along with the playlists, pictures, and chapter titles. It's gory and action-packed, but there are also loveable characters with a sweet little romance. I loved the backstory to the zombies and how that whole situation played out. It was very creative. I also ADORED the flashbacks to Buddy and Suzie as children and how sweet and innocent their friendship was. I was totally invested in this relationship. I loved how this made me think of all the old horror movies from this time period, including Them (which I feel like I've never heard of anyone knowing about that film before) and The Blob. I also got little vibes of It! Came from Outer Space and Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Very nostalgic of my childhood, since my dad grew up around that time watching those movies and I grew up with a love (and fear) of those as well because of him.

Also, I will post only one spoiler because I feel like it's not a big deal and it's important to some people...Eddie the dog survives ❤️❤️ which I appreciated because every scene with him gave me extreme anxiety. Eddie was also a very good boy and I loved his addition to the book as well.

This is definitely one of my new favorite zombie books, particularly one that is more of a romantic nature. I feel like it has a little something for everyone in it.
