Love On The Air is an ode to the workplace rom-com. It’s witty, funny, and empowering. It deals in love and loss, about understanding our flaws and wanting to improve on them, about taking your time with things in this age of fast lifestyles.
At first I was finding it hard to relate to Alex York (which is obviously a play on Ash London’s name, an A name and a major city in the UK) because of her wealth and taste for the expensive. I hesitate to spend $20 on a T-shirt, let alone what Alex spends. Yet somehow, just like she did with Leo, she won me over. I think it’s because deep down, every person reading a romance has once had their heart broken and wanted to do the best and be the best that they can be after a break up. Give the people that hurt us a big fuck you, followed by the bird.
Alex is unapologetically fierce, capable, and strong and I love that she stands up for her beliefs. I love the slow way that she and Leo fall in love; that comfortable friends to lovers trope that I’m often not the biggest fan of but works so well here.
Alex and I are the same age and what I wouldn’t give to have the same confidence that she has got. She’s really inspired me and I give full credit to Ash London and her team at Allen & Unwin for that inspiration.
Fear or love — I’m gonna choose love every time now.
Thank you to NetGalley for the eARC and Allen & Unwin for physical uncorrected proof copy 🫶🏼
