Blood Gift by Vela Roth

5.0

Fuck it. I'm giving this book 5 stars. This series has been the most unexpected surprise. The first couple books were so so hard to get through. Nothing but dialogue. No real action happened. Constant info dumps. It was too much. But the the past 3-4 books, have been so magical. The constant dialogue and insights into every thought the character had actually has made me fall so deeply in love with them. I feel so connected to them. And these books have some how made blood play sexy. I will never understand.

Cassia and Lio bring Solia to Othoros. She is determined to be queen. She also has some answers about Cassia's magic that she learned from Cassia's Mother. Cassia needs a letting site so her magic can awaken. But the only letting sites are in Tenebra. So off they go.

Tyron, who Cassia set up originally to be king, refuses to give up. So Solia and him have to wait for the Free Lords to vote. Meanwhile, Cassia and Lio are searching desperately for a letting site. Cassia keeps getting sicker and sicker and can't be away from Lio. They discover that without her magic, she is using Lio to fill the space. They are quickly running out of time to save her.

Tyron also refuses to let Cassia be free of their betrothal. Finally, after Cassia faints because Tyron wouldn't let her leave his side, Lio challenges him to a duel. Winner gets Cassia. Of course Lio wins and the whole world must acknowledge that Cassia and Lio are a couple.

Solia has Lio doing a bunch of test to prove he is worthy of Cassai. Solia doesn't like Lio at first because she feels like he is the reason for Cassia's suffering. She also feels like he takes away choices from her just by being alive.

The king finally attacks the council. Tyron ends up supporting Solia and she is crowned Queen. Lio and Cassia are trying to get everyone away from the keep to safety. A girl named Miranda, says she can take them to the kings hunting cottage that she has kept hidden with spells. She does take them there but then attacks them. The hunting cottage is a letting site.

Cassia and Lio escape but Cassia is on the verge of death. Lio takes her home and starts to change her. During her change she has memories restored to her. She remember the collector had all ready taken her magic from her when she was 14. Through the change she does get her plant magic back, but not her animal magic or sooth saying. Lio is determined to retrieve them, but Cassia isn't concerned. She is happy with her plant magic.

Lio won my heart in this book. Actually, both main characters did. I couldn't get enough of their endless love for each other. How sweet Lio was while Cassia was so frail and sick. My tender heart could barely handle all the cuteness. I do wish we could've gotten more from Mac and Lyros.
