I was late onto the ToG bandwagon but I've still been on this journey since January 2018.
This book was so damn emotional and hard to finish as I didn't want this the be the last moments I have with these characters that feel more like friends than fictional.
This book is so long and its hard to keep a readers attention in a full 980 pages, I admit I got a little bored half way through and I missed Aelin's witty remarks and sass that was present in all the other books, but my boredom didn't last for long as the book peaked and we got the scene we have been waiting for all this time.
I feel like Erawans demise was a little too simple though? Apparently he can be defeated by 1 healer alone, despite him being Aelins big-time enemy. I just think there were little parts of the final-showdown that have been built up for years just to be defeated too easily. Maybe Sarah realized she had dragged the middle of the story too much and needed to get it finished.
I was absolutely destroyed when Manons 13 sacrificed themselves... I still cant get over it some days later. For me that was the most heart-wrenching part of it all, and the Wyverns as well!!! If anything this book gets 5 stars for that scene alone. And how the Crochan curse was lifted... so cleverly done I am in awe of Sarah and how she ties everything in! All of this totally forgave the drawn out parts of the book.
But ultimately I got the ending I needed, Sarah didn't do a George R. R. Martin on us and kill off our most beloved main characters. Everyone is happy and we got a lot of baby-making scenes. And I'm content to sleep at night knowing Maeve is dust.
