The Raven Boys: The Graphic Novel by Sas Milledge, Stephanie Williams, Maggie Stiefvater
4.0

Anyone who knows me knows that The Raven Boys is probably my favorite series of all time. When I heard it was going to be turned into a graphic novel, I was ecstatic. These are my babies. I will devour them in any form.

The artwork was beautiful. It was great to see a fresh take on this story so many years after it had come out. I was able to fall back into this world and honestly, it made me want to reread the entire series again (even though I just did this not too long ago). But because this book means so much to me, I was probably a little too hard on it.

The first thing, and this is 100% a me thing - certain characters didn't look how the books described them, or how I formed them in my head, so that took a minute for me to adjust. But again, that's something that's on me because these characters are so ingrained in my mind. As I mentioned before, I found the artwork beautiful and the use of the art to tell the story was amazing. I loved seeing a lot of the magic come to life, especially with Cabeswater. I'm just too nitpicky with the characters.

Another thing, and I could be wrong about this, I felt that if you hadn't read the book prior to reading this, you may have felt a little lost. There's so much mythology and lore tied to this series and also so many inner thoughts and little moments that made the book so important and stand out to me, and I felt like some of those got lost along the way here. But again, that's me judging it based against the book. I would honestly be interested in hearing from people who have never read the book, and seeing what they think of this.

Overall, I'm super happy that this series is still being talked about as I will ALWAYS talk about it. And I really hope they do continue to put out the graphic novels as I'd love to see the progression of the story in graphic form.
