jhnd 's review for:
The Beekeeper of Aleppo
by Christy Lefteri
A book that considers an issue that occupies much of our news. It seeks to humanise the de-humanised (look at the language in the media, from politicians - asylum seekers, refugees, illegal immigrants etc - rarely people). And convey the horrors from which they seek to flee, the horrors which they experience on their journeys.
For that the book should be praised. I read this as part of my book club and we had an excellent discussion about the issue.
But the book is not equal to the task it seeks to achieve. Formulaic and not engagingly written. That's why I have rated it as I have.
