Outlining Your Novel: Map Your Way to Success by K.M. Weiland

2024 review:
It was good to revisit this one, even if it feels a bit elementary at this point in my life. Especially coming down from the (incredible) second edition of Structuring Your Novel. It still gives a great roadmap for coming up with ideas and getting them in workable order. In the future, I think I can go straight to the workbook, though. The full book includes a lot of examples and interviews that I probably don't need to revisit unless I'm stuck.

2018 review:
I was shocked by how this book pulled an entire plot out of my brain when I didn't know that 80% of it existed. It is very effective used in tandem with other books that expound more on premise, characters, POV, etc. - Weiland does discuss this, but I personally found success using Planning Your Novel by Janice Hardy to brainstorm other essential details before using this to hammer out an actual plot and storyline. I'm on to Structuring Your Novel and Weiland's book on character arcs!

This book makes me sad that I wrote three novels without it.
