Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage by Jennifer Ashley
5.0
So I sat down to read this book in order to get a reprieve from another book and I couldn't put it down! I liked the first book in this series, Ian's book, but I absolutely loved this book. What's not to love about Mac -- hot Scot, loyal husband, beyond sexy, funny, smart, and let's not forget completely and utterly head over heals for his lady. He's fantastic.
This book, in case you didn't already know, is about Isabella and Mac, who are legally married, but technically separated. After some hard times years ago, Isabella left Mac and it's been three-and-a-half years since they've been together. They see each other from time to time, being that Isabella is still part of the family, but for the most part their marriage is non existent -- other than the scandalous talks in the tabloids and by ladies gossiping about. Now, after a daring kiss and after Mac has reformed himself in a lot of ways, their romance is rekindling -- no matter how much they fight it.
I haven't read too many books about rekindling marriages. Sometimes it seems like it might be a boring kind of way to set up a romance, but this was far from boring! Mac and Isabella heat up the pages with the sexual tension between them that they both -- especially Isabella -- refuse to acknowledge out loud.
I liked both Mac and Isabella. I was a little worried I might not like Isabella in the spotlight (although I did like her brief appearances in the last book). But my reasoning was because it seemed kind of silly why she left Mac. But, after getting a better understanding for the why and also how her leaving him helped their relationship in the long run -- it was necessary -- I didn't let that hinder my opinion of her. I thought she was a very strong, funny, and loving woman. She has her ways of putting up walls, but I didn't find her annoying at all.
As for Mac, well I absolutely loved him. I don't know what it is with these Scots, but I cannot resist them. It's not just that he's sexy and seductive as hell, but he's so in love with Isabella and even in the time that they're apart, he can't bring himself to be with anyone else. How seriously sweet can you get? I fell for Mac quickly and I loved everything about his character.
I also think that their relationship building back up was very realistic. I think the book spans a time of many months, maybe more. But I thought that overall you could really feel them taking a little baby step, but it didn't feel like too much was happening too fast or unrealistically. So I have to give my kudos to Jennifer Ashley for that. She did a great job with the relationship.
Overall, this was a fantastic book. Like I said above, I liked it even more than the last book in this series and I'm really looking forward to Cam's book. Although, I'm pretty sure we can all guess who it'll be with after that one little "moment" he had with a certain someone. ;) I love me these Mackenzies!
