The Case of the Missing Tarts by Christee Curran-Bauer
4.0
funny lighthearted mysterious
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Loveable characters: Yes

Children's early reader/ graphic novel hybrid, mystery.  Three pigeons are detectives.  One of them has a mother who is a famous baker with her own TV show.  When she leaves the trio a batch of her jam tarts, they disappear before the pigeons even get a bite.  They are officially on the case of the missing tarts!  The pigeons collect suspects and evidence, tracing and retracing a route through the town.  This is a cute mystery but also makes fun of some mystery tropes at the same time (the characters all watch a crime show on TV with one episode featuring a Christmas cookie pyramid scheme).  Fun read for readers making the leap from I can read books to chapter books.
