I've only read a few Sarah Dessen books, and this is the first one I've read in years. But if all of her books are like this one, I definitely want to check more of them out. The characters were original and you couldn't help but adore some and hate others. This is one of the more interesting ones I've read in awhile, with quirky dialogue that you can't stop reading. If you haven't picked up something of hers yet, I'd suggest starting with this one.
