Hunted by Meagan Spooner

I am a big Beauty and the Beast fan, so I was interested to see if I would like this book or not. I’m happy to say this was a pretty good retelling. I liked how this story mirrored the Disney version, yet was unique in its own way.

I thought the family dynamic was great and I liked the positive relationship that Yeva had with her two sisters, as well as, her dad. It was also nice to see that for a time Yeva’s dad, didn’t stick to the gender norms of the time period and let her hunt and hang with him in the forest.

I liked Solmir and thought he was a good guy, although he was a little pushy, in his affections. The storyline with Yeva’s dad seemed a bit abrupt to me and it also felt like something was missing.

The romance between Yeva and the Beast seemed realistic and I liked its progression. It was also interesting to see how supportive her sisters were, even if they did hinder her, a little. The whole semi-love triangle was a bit annoying. I just didn’t like the idea of people choosing to potentially be miserable for no real reason. I felt it was unnecessary, especially when feelings were made very clear. Overall a great book and an excellent retelling. I may have to reread this again soon.
