Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella
funny
lighthearted
fast-paced
3.0
If you're in your early 20's and the year is 2002, you are going to LOVE this book - or at least I did. I remember this novel as the first book that made me laugh out loud. I thought Becky's antics and inner monologue were so silly and funny. I ate this whole series up back then!
If you're in your 40's and the year is 2025, you are probably going to hate this book. I should have left this novel in my happy memories of 20+ years ago. It definitely didn't land the same for me during this reread. I was at least hoping for that warm nostalgic feeling I get like when I re-watch "Runaway Bride" for the umpteenth time, but it didn't really happen. All the materialism wasn't cute, her debt gave me anxiety, and the romance was lame. How everything came together at the end was just ridiculous, it felt more YA that I remember. I only laughed out loud at one part this go around - the Finnish bit (IFYKYK).
2002 read = 5 stars
2025 read = 2 stars
So I'll just meet in the middle and say it's a 3 star read - just depends on your age and what decade you read it in!
