I feel like I really only needed half of this book. The point of view change didn't do a whole lot for me, but also I don't want to discredit it in case (since I know it was translated) different cultures have different, common narrative structures that I haven't been exposed to before. I was really intrigued the first half; putting a vampire in a pandemic is a really interesting situation, and I liked the betrayal she faced at the hands of the doctor after killing his brother . When it switched to the modern day, everything fell kind of flat. I didn't feel like the new narrator had much in terms of a foil to the vampire, and while I like the ending of she needs the vampire's help to put her mother to rest , it took a while to get there and they didn't have much of a relationship after that.
