Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake
by Sarah MacLean
Calpurnia Hartwell.
Callie is far and away the star of this romance. Ralston, I could honestly take or leave. He seemed more like an amalgamation of historical heroes, rather than an individual. Definitely not my favorite MacLean hero (cough...Whit and Tommy Peck...cough). I also felt like the ending was a bit rushed with the duel and not enough groveling on Ralston's part. That said, I never think the hero grovels enough.
I adored that Callie took her future into her own hands and made her list of rules to break. Of course, shenanigans ensue and many lead to some great steamy scenes. I prefer MacLean's Bareknuckle Bastards and Hell's Belles series, but this is my favorite of the Love By Numbers series.
