dollangengar 's review for:
にいちゃん [Nii-chan]
by Harada
TW // CSA, pedophilia
i suggest you to not read the review either because of the tw
soo i cried probably throughout the whole manga?
i don’t know if it’s unpopular or not but i preferred the first part, instead of the second. the first was raw, visceral, horrific, and incredibly realistic.
“why doesn’t he like me anymore? is it because i grew up? is it because i’m not a child anymore?” bawling my eyes out. definitely awakened some thoughts in me that should’ve stayed silent, because it’s true, they ‘only like you when you’re seventeen’, cause when you’re older, you’re not interesting anymore to them.
and when yui says he’s sorry for running away (he was just a child!) and his predator replies “i don’t forgive you” gosh, it was awful and that’s why it was beautifully so written.
but then, the second part was... too sweet and “nice”. i don’t get it! it could’ve been an incredible, dark portrayal of CSA, the victim blaming, nii-chan thinking it’s the child’s fault, the child still caring for his predator, the careless parents... and instead it takes this “loving”, good ending path. i don’t know. i can not rate this.
but! the second final, i’m glad i read it, because it was a bit better. it could be read as them being miserable as hell, especially yui, because his life wasn’t good, and he didn’t know better, he doesn’t know better and he can’t get away from it, so drugs are the only escape. also, mai dislikes kei, which is good. she still doesn’t do much about it, but the point is, they are both still children, they’re teenagers, it’s not their fault. where were the adults? they were the ones that had to make a move!
i would’ve preferred a much darker ending, it would’ve suited the story better and then i would’ve giving it a high rating, but like this, i don’t think i can judge this.
