Thank you so much to Flatiron Books for sending me a beautiful ARC of Melissa Albert's new novel, [b:The Hazel Wood|34275232|The Hazel Wood (The Hazel Wood, #1)|Melissa Albert|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1500549460s/34275232.jpg|53292100]. I was in love with this cover from the moment I saw it, and the plot synopsis was instantly intriguing. Dark fairy tales that haunt a mother and daughter on the run? A search to find a mysterious recluse author somewhere in a wood? Okay, I'm sold.
And I did have fun reading the first half of this book, but I have to be honest and say the second half wasn't really for me. However! I do think fans of [b:Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass|24213|Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass|Lewis Carroll|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1327872220s/24213.jpg|2375385] should look this up. Parts of it really felt like a love letter to the nonsensical charms in Wonderland. But, of course, a shade or two darker.
Before I go... I'm really confident I'd actually love to read the fairy tale stories within this novel. And what do you know? Melissa Albert is supposed to release them eventually! [b:Tales from the Hinterland|37842164|Tales from the Hinterland (The Hazel Wood, #2.5)|Melissa Albert|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/book/50x75-a91bf249278a81aabab721ef782c4a74.png|59532044] is slated for 2020. So I'll be interested to check that out.
