I try not to give out 5 stars lightly, so let it be known - I absolutely LOVED this book!

I am not a huge fan of historical fiction (although I may be slowly converting), and I knew that this book had A LOT of hype, so naturally I went in, expecting to be at least a little disappointed. But no, TJR did NOT disappoint!

Evelyn Hugo is such a brilliant character with so many dimensions. She is brave, strong, and determined. She knows exactly what she wants and isn’t afraid to get it. She succeeds, and she fails. She loves, she breaks hearts and has her heart broken. Her life may seem beautiful and glamourous (and for large parts it is), however she is still brilliantly flawed and deeply human. I have never connected with a character so deeply, despite them being so different from myself.

I loved that early on this book took a direction that I wasn’t quite expecting, but that was beautiful and refreshing. I also loved the intrigue that was built around why Monique was chosen to tell Evelyn’s story, and I definitely did not expect what unfolded. I do kind of wish that we got to see more of Monique’s story, and I hope that one day she appears in a future TJR book.

If you have somehow not managed to read this yet, I definitely recommend doing so! The only problem now is that I always find it hard to pick up my next book, after finishing one that was so great…
