An interesting work on feeling helpless in front of the tragedies of history, that also mocks the passivity and pathetic behavior of historical agents. The protagonist was purposefully neutral, insipid, lacking personality. I liked the jumps in time, they added a further layer of meaning by being deeply interconnected to the war storyline.
It is a book that can be a quick and easy read, but that can entertain you for weeks if you dig a little deeper in its meanings and messages.
