The School for Good Mothers
by Jessamine Chan
Such a heartbreaking and wretching story surrounding motherhood and the daily struggles and consequences of those, set in a 5 minute future dystopian.
Not being a parent myself, I could only imagine how reading this with having your own child, covers the swings and roundabouts and everyday mission that is 'successful' parenting and really brings about the poignant point that there really is no real 'correct' way to parent, even with AI and sci fiction taking a stab at it.
Some points the novel covered that I found really interesting were: how mothers are seemingly 'punished' for having 'a bad day', how once you're a mother this is now your entire existence and purpose and the difference society places on mother's and father's roles and how that's shown between the two different schools for bad parents.
