I already knew I was going to like this book just because I am a fan of Sarah J Maas writing style. I feel you either like it or you don’t and I’m one of the people that does.
Let me start off by saying that I really loved the characters. I like Celaena as a main character, she has a lot of spunk and attitude that makes her very enjoyable to read. I actually really liked the third person and switching of perspectives. I liked seeing other aspects and getting many character viewpoints.
However, I do know this book is heavily plot based (which I enjoy a lot) but I found this a bit underwhelming to be a 5 star read. I LOVED the last 100 pages, they were action packed and we got what I was waiting for the entire book.
The plot was also a bit predictable in this one at times, but I see potential in the magic system that has been created. I do believe that the series will get better as it goes and as Maas writing improves (I believe she started this concept at 16 and it’s a debut novel so of course the writing isn’t the best). I’m excited to continue the series.
