The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux

4.0

I fell in love with the musical many years ago, so it was high time I traced the roots of that beautiful music back to the place where it all began. I was bracing myself for deep disappointment, but this was just as magnificent.

As an avid Brontë fan, I l o v e gothic horror fiction. From madwomen in the attic to men with faces hardened by the cruelty of life, obsessing over their subjects of desire, there were so many parallels to be drawn. Particularly if you're obsessed with Wuthering Heights as much as I am.
