Mistletoe and Mishigas by M.A. Wardell
Did not finish book. Stopped at 25%.
I was iffy about the first one and unfortunately, all the things I disliked about the first one are amplified here.
First, how is this a story? There's almost no conflict. I read enough into the book where I should be able to identify the main conflict of the story but I got nothing. Between that and the repetitive narrative, I walked away.
I know from other reviews and from having read the first book that there's an attempt at PTSD rep and possibly body positivity? But unlike the first book, it doesn't sound like these are handled well (or at all when you come to Theo's body image issues). And Sheldon is beyond annoying with his constant chatter and pop culture references. It feels like a caricature. If it's trying to be authentic, what's the motivation? Is Sheldon coping with anxiety or low self-esteem so he makes references people would know to help him find a community? Is he autistic and this is how he learned to communicate? There needs to be a reason because without one, Sheldon seems like a stereotypical femme twink in a harmful way.
I won't be continuing with this series.
