I was disappointed to find out that this was not written by Agatha Christie.  However, I appreciated the way the book was written and how true it stayed to Christie’s style.  The mystery itself was anticlimactic for me, and the setting of the dying, cold old house didn’t spark any interest in my mind.  Maybe it was supposed to set a sinister tone, but it was more depressing than anything and didn’t have much character one way or the other. A fun Christmas read, but I don’t feel like I necessarily gained anything from it beyond an enjoyable nostalgia for the character of Hercule Poroit.  I did find Edward’s mother to be an interesting character - how she could be so irritating one moment, and then say something that was actually very insightful and wise the next.
