How do I even put into words what this book is? I feel lost now that it’s done. I feel like I lived this great love story, only to be so soul torn that I’m not sure how to move on. I knew, KNEW, what was happening, and still, these characters and their experiences ripped me apart. I will be thinking about, recommending this book, for the rest of my days. Finn and Riddick are two of the best characters I’ve ever read. Alexandra St. Pierre is a master storyteller, whose writing style, language use, world building, is one of the best I’ve read. Ever. I’m gobsmacked.
The Leviathans called to Finn, bringing him across the country to shred the deadly devils. Finn, along with his free spirited best friend Turtle, and Shelly, the VW van, head to Stars Cove ready to embark on taming the waves the locals won’t go near. Feeling fear isn’t something Finn does, not matter how much the people in the area try to warn him. After one encounter, a local grumpy surfer reluctantly agrees to train Finn for the waves, knowing there is no way he’ll back down.
Finn is the cute golden surfer boy, perfectly contrasting the jaded and grumpy Riddick. The instant pull, the tension, that these two have is palpable. There is something cosmic about Finn and Riddick, like the universe is pulling them together and when it does, it’s like a new galaxy is formed. No two people were ever made for each other more. Riddick, for all his surliness, has one of the biggest hearts. The rigidity in his instruction is because of the care he has, the fear he has For Finn. Finn, his lighthearted, charismatic self, pulls his same feelings out of everyone around him, just by being himself. The deadly dimples don’t hurt either.
Nearly every character in this story is incredibly lovable. I’m troubled to find the words to describe Finn and Riddick, and everyone else, how the reader will fall for them. How the reader will be consumed by this book. It’s best to go in knowing very little. What I will say is that this story is life altering. It will change your brain chemistry. It is sweet and endearing, SPICY yet nerve wracking, adorable and crushing. This story will have you feeling every emotion in the span of three hundred some pages; you will be forever changed.
I was truly lucky enough to receive a signed paperback ARC from Alexandra St. Pierre through my family, Twisted Fiction. I may be fraught with emotions, but I am eternally grateful to receive this book, to be able to read and review it. I will forever more be recommending it to anyone who will listen to me.
🌊“He had dimples on both cheeks, and I would be money he could convince the devil to give him a hall pass with that smile.”
🌊“Get real, bro. ‘Ain’t no one f***ing Tom Selleck. Tom Selleck does the f***ing.”
🌊“Mostly because when he flashed those dimples at me, I tended to forget why I needed to stay far away from Finn Summers.”
🌊“You’ll be a good boy and take it for me, won’t you?”
🌊“That’s my good boy. Take it. Take it all, baby. I want you full and f***ing dripping with me,”
🌊“Breathe for me, baby. You’re so beautiful when you breathe.”
🌊“I’d been there, and I always would be, because I didn’t know how not to be anymore.”
🌊“The world didn’t deserve Finn Summers.”
🌊“Yeah, baby. Whether it’s right or wrong, you’re mine now.”
