I really started to struggle with this book about half way through, it's much longer than I'd usually go for, and I found the main characters to be increasingly unlikeable. This is such a beautifully, emotionally, truthfully written book though, and I wonder if it deliberately took us to the edge to them bring us back for one of the most emotional final quarters of a book I've ever read.
