The Things We Keep by Sally Hepworth
1.0

Terrible. With such a promising premise, I expected a beautiful and introspective storyline. I had no feelings for Anna, before or after her early on-set Alzheimer's set in. The author shoves it in your face that Anna is a tough, courageous woman, but does not suss that out at all in terms of character development. The author does not trust her readers to develop their own judgement and feelings for the characters or the story itself. To top it all off, towards the last 20 pages, the author attempts to neatly tie a bow around the story in the most saccharine writing I have read in years.
